MACHINIING |
|
| Selected petroleum cokes are
used as the basic material for graphite electrode production. These are
crushed, milled and sized by screening .The coke is blended in a mere
together with carbonizable binders to form a plastic mass, which is then
extruded into cylinders known as “green” electrodes. |
| These “green” electrodes are baked at approximately
1000°C in an inert atmosphere to carbonize the binder. This heat treatment
lasts about three weeks. For various reasons, especially because of their
high electrical resistance, the carbon electrodes are unsuitable for use
in arc furnaces; so they are graphotype by heat treatment at approximately
2800°C in electric resistance furnaces, This brings about an improvement
in the crystalline order, with a resultant increase in both thermal and
electrical conductivity. |
| Diameter and length of Nipples
are machined as per IEC/NEMA standard or according to buyer’s requirement. |
